2006 Driving for Surviving
Melanoma Charity Golf Classic

Upcoming Events

NBC4 Health & Fitness Expo

Please plan to stop by the Foundation booth at the NBC4 Health & Fitness Expo on January 16 & 17, 2010 at the Washington Convention Center.

For our 4th annual event,
we moved to a new venue – Stonewall Golf Club in
Gainesville, VA.
Location of course

We sold out all 144 golfer spots for the third year in a row, and raised $36,000 for melanoma research at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. We have now raised over $90,000 for this great cause over the first four years of this event.

We are very grateful to everyone who made the event a success, and especially our four primary sponsors:
Elizabeth and Haley Cole
Joanne Lingerfelt and Family
Infinitive
iCore

The 2006 golf classic was held on Monday, September 18, a sunny and beautiful day. In addition to the nice weather and new venue, we were also blessed with the presence and active participation of the newly crowned Miss Maryland, Brittany Lietz, herself a melanoma survivor.

Brittany helped orchestrate the free skin cancer screenings, which were taken advantage of by 60 golfers and volunteers. We are grateful to Dr. Merrick Ross, Dr. Steven Mays, Dr. Saundra Seaman and Dr. Wen-Jen Hwu for donating their time and expertise. Dr. Hwu is the chief benefactor of our fundraising efforts, and she participated in a number of ways, along with Ms. Kaitlyn Bloomquist, the development officer at M.D. Anderson.

Ruth's Chris Steak House of Fairfax once again provided a delicious lunch buffet, and also contributed prizes for our putting contest, auction and raffle.

For the fourth year, Sheehy Nissan-Mitsubishi of Manassas provided a car (a beautiful Nissan 350Z) and other hole-in-one prizes. While no one won the car, we did have the first hole-in-one in tournament history, which was made by Andy Chen on hole #7. Andy opted for the $500 cash prize, which he then donated back to the Foundation – thank you very much!

We had 63 hole sponsors this year and numerous individuals and merchants donated goods and services for use in our auction and raffle. We really appreciate your support! Click here to read the event program, which recognizes all of our sponsors, donors and participants.
