Ashley Anne Fister Cole, a wife, daughter, sister and
friend departed Earth for Heaven at the much too young age of twenty-eight
due to the challenges of melanoma. She was diagnosed in July 1999 and,
after taking a year of self-injections of Interferon (Intron-A), she was
shown to have no signs of cancer in January 2001. While living her dream
of teaching in a Kindergarten class at Wakefield Forest Elementary School,
she was diagnosed with a recurrence in February 2002. She valiantly battled
through three different chemotherapy regimens, all the while raising money
for and participating in the Avon Breast Cancer 3-day walk, organizing
a team from her school and completing the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer
5K, walking in the Relay for Life event for the American Cancer Society,
and visiting her Kindergarten class as often as she could.
